I am a child of God

At church I work with the Primary kids, ages 3-11, with singing time. I ABSOLUTELY love doing this! I wanted to have the kids help me design a quilt to give away. The theme was I Am A Child of God, and we have a song by this name also. So they designed a maze quilt. I had my daughter help me with path from start to finish and they added all the other 'pathways' on it. We talked about how much this relates to life.
Here we see that sometimes we get stuck doing the same thing over and over again. We go around in a loop and just can't seem to get out. We also may find we need to backtrack from where we are to go the right way instead of hitting a dead end. We may have small areas to back track as in above, or sometimes larger areas we need to backtrack from.
We can do this through repentance. Its not always an easy process. It may be to start a new habit that can help us, or to stop doing something that is keeping us from reaching our goals. But it is ALWAYS worth the effort and hard work to get to the place we want to be.

When we open our hearts up to follow our Savior, to use Him as our ultimate example, we will see we are loved and He is there helping us all along the way. As in the quilting above, if we look hard enough we will see our righteous path is filled with love, from us and others. But most importantly from our Heavenly Father.
When we choose the darker path, we are just wondering where ever, no goal in line, not knowing where we are going. There is no distinct pathway when we choose wrong. Satan leads us wondering in the dark. I, for one, like to know where I am going, how I'm going to get there, and where I've been. I can see this clearly in the blue border, bot not in the dark background.
We all start at the same place and desire to finish at the same place, also. Our pathway is our own. There are many ways to reach the desired end, but some things are set in the way we must do things. To reach our goal to live with out Father in Heaven again there are certain things we must do. We must be doing our best. We need to stay close to Him. We do this by praying, reading the scriptures, going to church, helping others. All those things that add oil to our lamps, as in the story of the 10 virgins in the New Testament. We can reach our goal different ways, We may or may not go to college or serve in the military. We may or may not have kids. We may or may not be married. We may be poor or well off.
Where are your choices leading you? Are you stuck in a rut, at a dead end, going the long or short way? Our journey in life is personal. There are so, so many different paths. Your path isn't right for me. Mine isn't right for you. But we do all have things in common. We all get stuck in rut, repeating choices we find hard to break, sometimes find ourselves at a dead end with the need to change. Sometimes we discover this early on, and sometimes it takes a little longer. But we, I believe, are all trying to make it back to our Savior. We are striving to live right, helping others, praying. We are all in this together. Help one another. Start small if you don't know what to do. More than likely we are doing much better than we think we are. My prayer is that we all stay on the 'blue' path and are able to find our way out of the ruts we find ourselves in at times and able to backtrack when we realize we have come to a dead end. May we all let the Lord 'Lead Me, Guide Me, Walk Beside Me, Help Me Find the Way'.
My kids did choice as a group who to give this quilt to, a wonderful choice I think.
